Kolegium Redakcyjne „Łódzkich Studiów Teologicznych” w pierwszą rocznicę odejścia Biskupa Adama do Domu Ojca z wdzięcznością wspomina sylwetkę i działalność badawczą założyciela i pierwszego redaktora naczelnego tego czasopisma. Biskup Lepa pragnął, by łódzki periodyk teologiczny stał się dla środowiska akademickiego płaszczyzną spotkania i debaty nad istotnymi zagadnieniami teologicznymi, filozoficznymi oraz nauk społecznych i humanistycznych.

The publications of the late Bishop Adam Lepa (1939–2022) deal with the topic of the galenosphere as an environment of silence and its role in life and in the process of human education. A special and specific form of the galenosphere are those environments of silence that concern the sacrum. In this context, it is possible to speak of the importance of silence obligatory during the celebration of liturgy. The aim of the study is to show the nature and role of the galenosphere characteristic of the liturgy. Starting from an explanation of the concept of the galenosphere, the author of the study then goes on to show the close relationship that develops between silence and mystery on the basis of the analysis of the writings of Odo Casel (1886–1948), a Benedictine monk from the Abbey of Maria Lach in the Rhineland, founder of the mystery theory in sacramentology and an outstanding theologian of the liturgy. In Odo Casel’s optics, silence is a ritual form of personal participation in Christ’s action, which is realised on the sacramental plane, and not merely an expression of subjective piety. The aim of liturgical silence is therefore to pursue the mystery communion with the Logos.
The next section of the paper, based on an analysis of the General Introduction to the Roman Missal, presents the location of moments of silence in the structure of the Eucharistic celebration, their theological and liturgical justification and their normative character. The final section of the article is devoted to the typology of liturgical silence. It discusses its following types: reflective, internalizing, meditative and adorative silence. It concludes by pointing out pastoral aspects related to the great importance of silence in the process of implementing the conciliar principle of participatio actuosa. Liturgical silence cannot be identified with “an inner haven in which to hide oneself in some sort of intimate isolation”, but is “a symbol of the presence and action of the Holy Spirit” (Pope Francis, Apostolic Letter Desiderio desideravi, no. 52). In this perspective of the pneumatological significance of moments of silence in liturgical celebrations, the demand to educate clergy and lay faithful to perform the symbolic gesture of silence with great care is particularly relevant from the point of view of liturgical formation.

Effective communication fits into the social context, which means that there is a relationship between the transfer of various information and the behavior of a given community. Communication is a two-way process, concerning, on the one hand, transferring information, and on the other hand, reading information, which in theological terms can be reduced to the personalistic context (concerning a human person). Man remains in the center of interest in media communication, and contemporary personalism considers communication processes as important for the development of man and his spiritual sphere. In the case of believers, this spirituality is inextricably linked to the theology of communion with God as a set of thoughts regarding the processes taking place when deepening the spiritual sphere. The theology of communion is therefore reduced to the theology of spirituality, and human development in the spiritual sphere largely determines the well-being of each individual.

Undoubtedly, analyzing the teaching of bishop Adam Lepa, we can see that the media show great opportunities in the field of positive action: they teach, bring the works of culture closer, arouse creative passions, and in the hands of believers they become a place of effective evangelization. Based on the above aspects, we can see that a media worker, thanks to his faithfulness to the Word, becomes not only a teacher but also an evangelizer. Recognizing the need for the formation of a journalist, the work emphasizes that spiritual formation in the life of a person responsible for the transfer of information is very important. The fruit of preaching a journalistic message will be, for example, the shaping of a Christian mentality, which will bring people closer to God. Building a Christian mentality is a way of thinking, it’s intellectual inquisitiveness, and above all, it’s habits of thought and beliefs to which a person has managed to get used to. A journalist using the formation will be aware that Christ is his most important formatter. Therefore, the principles of spiritual formation never grow old, just like the Gospel, of which a journalist of the 21st century can become a faithful witness.

A journalist is one of the professions that has high public support and should be characterised by high moral and ethical requirements when performing their work, which is to provide information to the public. The aim of this article is to analyse the notion of journalist on a linguistic and legal level. It was made by analysing the definition of a journalist in dictionaries of the Polish language and in the science of social communication and the media, as well as by analysing the dogmatic legal definition of the notion of journalist contained in Article 7(2)(5) of the Press Law.

Adam Lepa – bishop of Łódź in Poland among his other pastoral skills, remains the notable Christian mass medialogist and effective organizer of the Catholic press, radio and television institutions. In the period after the turning point marked by the Solidarity social movement from the 80s. he worked as head of the Commission for Social Communication Instruments of the Polish Episcopate Conference. His academic competence and personal values were the basis for his various institutional and pastoral initiatives. Among others it is necessary to underline his role in the formulation of the charter of the main ideas formulated for the Society of Catholic Journalists. Even in her academic work Msgr Lepa has published many books and articles that are significant for contemporary mass-mediology. His personal life remains as the personal criterion of journalistic values in the field of „logosphere” on which he left us so many pages.

During his pastoral ministry, Father Adam Lepa was directed to four parishes. Each of them had its own pastoral specifics. In the first two of these, St Adalbert’s parish in Dobroń and the Transfiguration of the Lord parish in Łódź, he served as vicar. In the other two, St Ursula’s and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary parishes in Łódź, he held the office of parish priest. In St Ursula’s parish he was the first parish at the pre-existing pastoral centre, and the second parish he took over as parish priest was the oldest parish in Łódź.

The path of enlightenment consists imitating of Jesus by practicing the virtues, especially the supernatural ones. The condition for this development of virtues is a some purity of heart. Man has to put his passions in order and fight with his major weaknesses. Then comes self-control, order in everyday life, deep conviction of the truths of faith, and more time to talk with the Lord during prayer. To achieve this state, a Christian must to pass a process of passive purification, which leads him into the mystical life. All imperfections must be removed. Therefore, God’s intervention is needed, which is expressed through special inspirations. Then the gifts of the Holy Spirit enable us to receive them. The Christian experiences passive purifications of senses and of spirit. This state can be compared to the purification of the senses. The purification of the soul is compared to the purification of gold in a crucible. In this state, prayer develops from meditation to emotional prayer. The Christian must therefore remove the obstacles in the development of prayer.
