Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • By submitting this agreement, the undersigned author hereby grants to The Ohio State University, on behalf of its University Libraries’ Knowledge Bank, 175 W. 18th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43210 (hereinafter "Publisher") the non-exclusive right to reproduce, translate, display, and/or distribute the Submission (including the abstract) as part of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences’ Ask: Research and Methods (“Journal”), in print and electronic format and in any medium. You also agree that the Publisher may make and retain more than one copy for the purpose of preservation, security, and backup. You represent that you, as sole author and/or on behalf of your co-authors, have the authority to grant the rights contained in this agreement. You also represent that your Submission does not, to the best of your knowledge, infringe upon anyone’s copyright. If the Submission contains material for which you do not hold copyright, you represent that you have obtained the unrestricted permission of the copyright owner to grant the Publisher the rights in this agreement, and that such third party owned material is clearly identified and acknowledged within the text or content of the Submission. Alternatively, you represent that your use of third party material is allowed because the material is in the public domain or you have performed a fair use analysis and reasonably believe your use is permitted.
  • The author understands that the Publisher may grant these same rights to Journal. Additionally, the author also grants the right to both Journal and Publisher to enter into agreements with third party entities that grant such third party entities any or all of the rights that author has granted to Publisher herein. The aforementioned rights may include the rights necessary to index and abstract the Submission.
  • The author agrees that any subsequent publication of the Submission will credit the Journal as the site of first publication and provide a link to the Journal website.
  • Ask: Research and Methods is published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs license, to allow for certain types of reuse without permission. By submitting this agreement, the author agrees to apply a CC-BY-NC-ND license to the Submission upon publication.

Author Guidelines

Language:

  • All articles in the Ask: Research and Methods must be submitted in English. For authors whose native language is not English, it is highly recommended to check the article for linguistic correctness with the help of a professional copy-editor.
  • The articles can follow British or American orthographic norms, provided that one norm is used consistently.
  • Articles of authors whose native language is not English are subject to English proofreading upon acceptance.

CItation Style:

  • Since 2024 articles should follow the APA 7 citation guidelines.
  • It is required to use in-text citations providing the author’s surname and the year of the publication.
  • Where suitable, it is possible to use the narrative format of APA in-text citation where the author’s last name is written as part of the sentence, followed by the publication year and page number (if applicable) in parentheses.
  • It is required to include in the bibliography a full list of references that are listed in the main part of the work as in-text citations.
  • It is required to provide numbers or links identifying the works, i.e. DOI numbers, or, in their absence, a link to the cited version of the work.

Manuscript Format:

  • A complete anonymized work should include an abstract (up to 250 words), an introduction, the main part of the work (including the basic elements of scientific articles - literature review, description of data, methods and results), possible discussion, conclusions and bibliography.
  • In special and justified cases of work in the field of research methodology, a different structure is allowed - tailored to the specific needs of a given work, e.g. the description of the proposed new research method does not have to include an analytical part with the obtained results.

Manuscript Submission:

  • The journal accepts original works that are consistent with the thematic scope of the journal.
  • Authors are asked to provide their affiliations and ORCID numbers when submitting their work. This information must be provided separately (in addition to the anonymized version of the work itself).
  • Authors can also provide e-mail addresses of all co-authors (not just the corresponding author's contact details) if they want this additional information to be included in the published work along with their names in addition to affiliation.
