The article presents the origins of Mariavitism and its first legalization attempts (1893–1909). Initiated by Feliksa Kozłowska, the movement sought clerical renewal through Eucharistic and Marian devotion. After Vatican condemnation in 1906, Mariavites turned to the Russian authorities for recognition. The author argues that Tsarist Russia did not create the movement but later used it to weaken the Catholic Church in Poland.
