Saint Vincent Pallotti was very dedicated to the formation of the clergy of his time. Amid the revolutionary movements in 19th-century Rome, various forms of popular and liturgical devotion were developing. As a means to help the clergy live the month dedicated to Mary, Fr. Pallotti wrote “The Month of May for the Clergy.”
This article describes the liturgical sources used by St. Vincent Pallotti to write “The Month of May for the Clergy,” a collection of Marian meditations addressed to the clergy and those preparing for the priesthood. It is an attempt to show how the Roman Missal, the Roman Pontifical, and the Breviary can be helpful in the spiritual development of the clergy, even beyond the liturgical context.
