The article is a continuation of the publication that appeared in “Palestra” (No. 3/2022). It concerned the path to the adoption of the Act - the Law on the Bar of 26 May 1982. This publication deals with the first three years of the functioning of the profession's self-government on the basis of the new provisions. This period witnessed events important for the Bar: elections to the new self-governing authorities and the first Bar convention since 1959. It is relevant to present the attitude of the authorities of the Polish People's Republic towards advocates. The authorities partially yielded to the demands of the Bar in 1982. However, they did not intend to give up their control over the Bar. The ideas carried by the so-called “Solidarity Carnival” (1980-1981) were still alive in the community. For this reason, the period from 1983 to 1985 brought increased supervision by the authorities over the actions of advocates as a professional group. They tried to influence the results of elections to the self-government and the course of the convention. The article shows by what methods the authorities tried to discipline advocates as a group and whether these actions had the effect expected by the authorities.
