The evangelical counsels are recommendations of God contained in the Gospel, not binding under sin, contrary to God’s commandments. The evangelical counsels play an extremely important role in the process of formation to the clergy within the framework of human formation. A candidate for the priesthood is to learn not only in theory what chastity, poverty and obedience look like, but also to incorporate these advice into his future priestly life. The role of the seminary is to form a candidate for the priesthood in such a way that he is ready to undertake a celibate life, obey his own ordinary, and be free from material things.
