This article discusses the reform of the liturgical calendar. It was carried out in 1969, when the new Roman Calendar was promulgated. It was the result of the work of the ‘Consilium’, which from 1964 to 1969 prepared individual schemes for the renewal of the calendar, ultimately leading to its significant modification. This article does not only present how the reform was carried out or how the work on it proceeded. It pays particular attention to the wishes of the bishops who sent their proposals for renewal to the Preparatory Commission for the Second Vatican Council. The comparison of these preliminary ideas with the work of the Consilium, which is an innovative work in Polish literature on the subject, allows us to see the influence of the pastoral experience of bishops from around the world on the reform. Therefore, the aim of this text is to examine the extent to which these preliminary proposals influenced the reform.
