
Decentralised autonomous organisations (DAOs) are a new way of conducting business, which utilises blockchain technology and smart contracts. According to their proponents, these vehicles will revolutionise economic and legal transactions by taking over and replacing the functions of corporations. This article examines these declarations and, from the perspective of law and economics, considers the benefits and limitations of DAOs, as well as their possible advantages over corporations. It also makes a preliminary legal classification of the tokens issued by DAOs.
