The growing number of unhappy Catholic marriages, divorces and cases brought before court Christian to annul marriage leads to a reflection on the quality of preparation of persons who are to contract marriage. Even though remote and proximate preparation for marriage is of great importance here, direct preparation to marriage plays a particularly important role. It includes among others canonical pre-marriage interview, which is a proud moment during which it is verified if the future spouses are legally capable of contracting marriage in line to canon 1066 of the Code of the Canon Law, which requires a priest to make sure that nothing prevents the future spouses to contract legal marriage before it the ceremony takes place. The verification of requirements which have to be met to contract marriage seems to be the most important part of this interview. It should be carried out very carefully and with a sense of responsibility for the final decision taken by the priest; above all, it should be a kind of a dialogue between future spouses and the priest. The specific matter of the pre-marriage interview are marriage obstacles (determination if there are any between future spouses), future spouses’ physical capability (if they have it) and the disadvantages of marriage consensus (if there are any in one or the other party). The issue of preventing the nullity of marriage through canonical premarriage interview without a doubt deserves more in-depth reflection.
