The authors’ aim to analyze the jurisprudence of the Latvian Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court on issues concerning freedom of conscience and religion. Particular attention has been given to problems related to the functioning of churches (i.e., prohibition of church registration due to a misleading name) or restrictions on prisoners’ freedom of religion. The authors also analyze the constitutional and statutory norms relating to religious freedom in the Republic of Latvia.
