Pastoral ministry in the modern world requires particular reflection and openness to the work of God’s Spirit. New pastoral situations, numerous evangelisation initiatives, school catechesis and social and cultural transformations, especially in the context of religiosity, constitute a daunting challenge to be faced in pastoral work. Involvement must never be a reason to lose sight of Jesus Christ, who is always the goal of all the Church’s salvific activity and the guarantor of its effectiveness. An extremely valuable help in the permanent formation of oneself as a pastor is offered by the authority of priests who zealously worked in the field of evangelization, becoming precursors of the new evangelization. Their ministry has contributed to the growth of faith of many people, who, thanks to their pastoral commitment, have been able to follow the path of shaping their own spiritual life. One of the examples of such a priest is Fr Franciszek Rząsa, who through his vision of pastoral work and numerous initiatives constituting novelties in his years of pastoral work, in a way defined the pastoral framework for the Diocese of Przemyśl, Rzeszów and Sandomierz. The present study is intended to show his profile as a pastor and catechist and as a model for contemporary pastors and catechists.
