The Polish nobility in their work eagerly appealed to idealized patterns from the past, giving examples and desirable models of behavior that formed the basis of civic education of young people. One of the mythical canons of the daily actions of a member of the knightly state was the honorary service of his homeland without looking at the profits from his public functions. The honor given to the service of others should suffice as a reward for the effort, while the expectation of the material gratification was not in the good taste of the e lite in that time.
