International associations allow for exchange of knowledge and experience from various disciplines of forensic science and criminalistics and create necessary conditions for the development of identification methods. Their activity is connected with increasement of the efficiency of criminal process in longer perspective. Activities of selected international associations (i.a. IAFS, IAI, IALFS, CFS, AAFS) and networks of forensic science institutes (ASCLD, ENFSI, SMANZFL, AICEF, ASFN, SARFS) are discussed and evaluated. Dissemination of knowledge at international conferences are especially discussed. Crucial role of associations and networks is developing standards and methodologies for analysis of traces, identifying good practices and enhancing quality in forensic research. This favors the globalization of forensic sciences and crim- inalistics.
