Many criminalists state, that handgun fired cartridge case place is thereabout constant and can be useful to determine location of the weapon in the moment of opening fire. The author of this study inspected whether pistol cartridge cases locations are suitable to gain information about place of taking a handgun shot. Two pistols of Walther P99, 9 × 19 mm Parabellum
caliber, were used to obtain data from two different shooting positions. Experiments proved the relative inconsiderable diversity of the spent cartridge case places, without influence of shooter’s positions. Of 40 cartridges fired, all of the cartridge cases fell to the right and rear of the shooter, averagely at an angle 121° relative to shot direction and at distance 243,9 cm
from weapon location. Majority of cases concentrated in one compact area. This fact shows that determining approximate place of taking a handgun shot can be conducted on the basis of spent cartridge case location.
