The article presents history and activity of the Polish Forensic Association, which in 2013 celebrated its 40th anniversary. As for the reason of establishing a scientific associations focusing on issues of forensic science can be indicated the need to integrate national bod-ies interested in the exchange of knowledge and practical experience useful in the preven-tion of crime and the fight against criminality using scientific methods. The idea of creat-ing Polish Forensic Association has been put forward for the first time in December 1971 by Brunon Hołyst – by then habilitated doctor, currently a professor - and was finally completed on 24th January 1973, when the conference (which was held in the Institute of Forensic Research in Krakow) transformed into the founding meeting of the Polish Foren-sic Association. Article presents the main objectives and courses of action, and the most important achievements of Polish Forensic Association and the people who have made the greatest contribution to development of the Association.
