The main objective of this elaboration is to look aside to present normative regulations relating to the problematic aspects of human scent traces research. The study is also an attempt to confront once constructed its development plans with the current reality. The analysis was based on documents prepared by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory of the Police regulating the processes of securing evidence, obtaining comparative materials, including the research process. Bear in mind that a major role in the shaping its current state partook major research centers, including the Faculty of Law and Administration at Warsaw University, Department of Criminology and Public Safety at the Jagiellonian University in which it was possible to give the shape of the discipline process as the subject of study, or even the Institute of Genetics and Animal Husbandry, Polish Academy of Sciences, in which a number of strictly experimental studies were carried out. The elaboration posed many questions about its further formation.
