Bite marks – CSI effect. Limits of forensic odontoglyphics

Abstract

The purpose of this publication is to describe some trends in application forensics aspects into mass-media and popular culture, in connection with dangers bringing by this tendency, and formation of CSI effect on the field of bite marks analysis. Bite marks analysis is still growing science, very difficult and perhaps the most controversial of all the forensics areas. The author discusses some reasons of building CSI effect in the area of odontoglyphics, its influence to evaluation of bite marks analysis, the real possibilities of using bite marks evidence in courtroom; also, shows still existing limits in this forensic science subdivision.
