This article presents the political and social ideas contained in selected novels written by Rafał Ziemkiewicz and published in the years 1982–1984. In the 1980s the literature, especially the science fiction genre, often served as a tool for expressing one’s position towards the prevailing political regime. This article focuses on the represented world in Ziemkiewicz’s stories: 1) the image of the People’s Republic of Poland; 2) the possibilities of resistance against the reality of the real socialism; 3) his vision of the history of mankind. In addition, it briefly shows how Ziemkiewicz’s schemes of interpreting the social reality of the People’s Republic of Poland are still present in his contemporary journalistic essays. In the description of Ziemkiewicz’s work its political and social contexts are taken into consideration. Due to the chosen research approach and methods, the publication can be considered as belonging to the sociology of literature.
