
The article forms part of the discussion, which has been going on for many years, on the need for changes regarding the jurisdiction of common courts, in particular with a view to “relieving” the excessive number of cases. It seems that the Polish legislator has certain solutions at its disposal which, by way of simple statutory changes, might lead to a tangible reduction in the number of cases referred to Polish courts for consideration. Extending the competences vested in civil-law notaries in the indicated areas would definitely relieve the burden on courts without creating a burden on the state budget. The presented possibilities of extending the jurisdiction of civil-law notaries and relieving the burden on courts seem consistent with efforts made by state authorities and the generally desired acceleration of court proceedings.
