A linguistic analysis of contemporary wedding invitations based on selected examples

Abstract

Nowadays, new texts are constantly being created, which are becoming increasingly difficult to assign to a specific genre. This article describes various examples of wedding invitations. Nowadays, an increasing variety of their forms can be observed. The invitation, as a genre, has a certain pattern which, depending on the specific text, undergoes greater or lesser metamorphoses, i. e. it has obligatory elements, without which it could not be considered an invitation, and additional information which may or may not appear for the content to be readable; these depend on the choice of the sender. The fixed components are expressed through various synonyms and metaphors, but the most important thing is not to lose their meaning; it should be remembered that the invitation has primarily an informative function. Nowadays, wedding invitations largely take the written form.
