The purpose of this article is to present the involvement of the party-state apparatus of the Elbląg Province during John Paul II's pilgrimage to Poland in 1979. The coordination of the authorities' activities was handled by the Elbląg Provincial Team for Clergy Affairs under the direct supervision of the PZPR Central Committee. However, during the Pope's visit, 24-hour party activist duty was introduced in the province. The most important effect of the pilgrimage was the religious revival of the population.
