Works of art that are in museum collections fall prey to thieves as a result of theft with burglary. The aim of this article is to present cases of break-ins at several museums in Poland and to analyze the conditions in which they were made. From the several cases of thefts described in the article and the conditions for their execution, the repeatability of conditions conducive to this type of crime results. The conditions conducive to theft with burglary into museums are insufficient personal guard or unreliability of the guarding staff, lack of technical security measures, e.g. no alarm, lack of social knowledge about the effectiveness of punishing the thieves of monuments that may deter potential thieves. There is also a need for systematic training of museum staff in basic measures to protect these institutions against burglary, theft, attacks and fraud, as well as the selection of personnel in terms of responsibility and honesty based on references and trial periods of work.
