The article discusses the phenomenon of the tradition of old Lithuania and the “old lithuanian” self-awareness, preserved in the memory of the nobility of the Lithuanian monarchy and its descendants during the existence of the medieval and modern Grand Duchy of Lithuania, still alive in the minds of the “oldlithuanian” nobles in the 19th century, and in some exceptions even lasting until the end of the 20th century. The article draws attention to the views on this issue of researchers from various countries of Central and Eastern Europe and cites evidence from various historical sources – acts, chronicles, letters, diaries, memoirs and others, in order to establish the main features of the tradition in question.
