The subject of the analysis carried out in the article are issues related to the regulation of an economic activity within the sphere of detective services. The above-mentioned subject matter was presented by placing a particular emphasis on the issues of public interest in the regulation of an economic activity. The article presents a general regulation within the scope of the said economic activity resulting from the Act – Law of entrepreneurs. The concept of public interest was also addressed in detail. In the light of the above, the substantive legal bases for undertaking economic activity within the scope of detective services were subject to research as well. The conclusions boil down to the statement that the regulation of a business activity resulting from the Act on detective services is fully justified, in particular by the need to protect the public interest. The article also presents postulates de lege ferenda aimed at the elimination of loopholes and contradictions in the regulations governing the economic activity in this service sector.
