One of the basic entitlements of Church believers is the right to defence. It is guaranteed by the Code of Canon Law of 1983, both in the regulations governing the basic rights and duties of the whole faithful Christian community as well as in the procedure regulations of canon proceedings. The right to defence, which should give full security, and ways to use it call for adherence to the procedural regulations. If misused, the law may lead to abuse and may hamper or render impossible the use of this entitlement.
