The changes at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in China led to legal reforms and issuance of legal acts covering various branches of law. In this period there was a special development of civil law that was separated from the criminal code. The article includes Polish translation of the provisions of the Draft Civil Code of the Great Qing from 1907-1911 in China and their dogmatic and legal analysis in terms of indicating some similarities and differences with the German Civil Code BGB from 1896, that was the main model of new legal provisions. The article presents the genesis of an attempt to codify civil law in China, the systematics of the code and selected legal regulations contained in the first three books of the Draft Code. Moreover, it indicates the institutions and legal instruments modeled on Western civil codification, that were effectively incorporated into the Chinese legal system and solutions that were not adapted to Chinese reality, practice or cultural differences.
