The history of Catholic Weekly “Niedziela” spans several periods: 1926–1939, 1945–1953, and 1981–2025. Another distinct period was the time of martial law. During these years, the publication of Niedziela was suspended for several months at the behest of the communist authorities. The history of this weekly newspaper is also the history of the Church and our nation. Its development over the past 100 years has been shaped by its editors-in-chief: Fr. Wojciech Mondry, Fr. Stanisław Gałązka, Fr. Antoni Marchewka, Fr. Ireneusz Skubiś, Lidia Dudkiewicz, and, since 2019, Fr. Jarosław Grabowski. The history of the magazine also encompasses its columnists and authors, some of whom, such as Antoni Gołubiew and Stefan Kisielewski, played a significant role in Polish history. The newspaper’s history is one of struggle during the hard years of communism in Poland and the times of political change after 1989.
