Parish church in Vladimir Wolynsky 1851-1856

Abstract

A brick parish church dedicated to Saints Joachim and Anne was built in place of a wooden church, founded by Duchess Anna Zabarska in 1554 (the wooden church burnt down in 1736). Bishop Adam Woyna Orański, a suffragan bishop of Kamieniec, founded and consecrated the new church. In another fire of 1800, the roof of the church burnt down, but thanks to the parish priest Tomasz Zdebiński’s efforts, it was reconstructed and shingled. However, the roof of the church along with the presbytery and other parish buildings burnt down again in a town fire in 1833. In 1836 the parish church was rebuilt with the help of the Bishop of Lutsk and Zhyto-myr, Michał Jan Piwnicki. In addition, parishioners made modest offerings for this purpose. In 1853 another renovation of the church, including the roof, was initiated by the then parish priest and the dean of Włodzimierz (1850-1886), Rev. Jan Piotrowski. In 1856 the shingled church roof was replaced with a metal one. This description of the tangible goods which belonged to the parish reveals the condition of the church benefice at the time.
