The article presents a 40-year period of crisis and reorganisation of the Archdiocese of Gniezno, covering the reigns of six archbishops - three of them from Gniezno: Michał Poniatowski from the last year of his life (-1794), Ignacy Krasicki (1795-1801) and Ignacy Raczyński (1805-1818), and three from Gniezno and Poznań: Tymoteusz Gorzeński (1821-1825), Teofil Wolicki (1828-1829) and Marcin Dunin in the first years of his reign (1830-).
