On 29 May 1869, Alexander Sergeyevich Mukhanov, who was in charge of ecclesiastical affairs in the Kingdom of Poland, signed an order, based on a decision by Tsar Alexander II, to deport Bishop Konstantin Irenenush Lyubensky of Sejny. The order stipulated that the bishop was to be transported by rail via Dynaburg, Orzeł, Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod, and from there by ship via the Volga and Kama rivers to Perm. The purpose of this article is to present the circumstances that preceded this event and to describe the journey of the Bishop, who died in Nizhny Novgorod on 16 June 1869.
