Despite enormous progress in research on the history of Polish Cistercian monasteries, the issue of contacts between monks and the universities of medieval Europe has not yet been satisfactorily resolved. Research on the Cistercians was best studied at the Jagiellonian University (J. Fijałek), Leipzig (A. Dietrich), Cologne and Heidelberg (A. Amrhein). However, the mentioned authors did not avoid certain errors and did not include all monks studying and obtaining doctorates at these universities. The aim of this article is to fill these gaps based on university matriculation and doctoral records (until the mid-16th century). Other university records that had not previously been examined for connections with Polish Cistercian monasteries were also assessed. The research conducted allowed to establish the presence of Polish Cistercians at the universities in Vienna, Rostock, Erfurt and Frankfurt (Oder), as well as (in the 14th century) in Paris. In total, it was possible to identify 151 monks from Polish Cistercian monasteries who studied at various universities from the 14th to the mid-16th century.
