The purpose of the article is to examine the issue of religion in the Hellenic Republic, taking into account the specific provisions contained in the Constitution of Greece and other legal acts. The author undertakes an analysis of the principle of freedom of conscience and religion in the context of the status of the prevailing religion against the background of the characteristics of confessional states. The article also emphasises a critical analysis of the judgments handed down by the European Court of Human Rights concerning freedom of conscience in the context of Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
