Initial investigation in the canon criminal trial is a preparatory step toward a potential trial proceedings. When told that a delict has been committed, the ordinary is bound, himself in person or via a person designated, to gather necessary data essential to thorough research on the issue, in order to assess probability of a particular crime being committed. During such an inquiry the ordinary possesses strictly assigned duties and responsibilities. Hence, these are the subject of research conducted in this study. Nevertheless, the presented study is not sufficient because the amount of issues on the matter is vast and it needs further deepen research, even in the form of monography. Additionally, this paper focuses mainly on the reports regarding crimes against the sixth Commandment, and those committed by clergyman with minor person.
