The article undertakes a theological reflection on the moment of expressing marital consent in the context of Christian spirituality. This moment is a meeting of the human and supernatural dimensions. It is an act of people's co-participation in the salvific plan of the Creator, who has made a covenant with His creation, so that man could already here on earth, despite the tragedy of sin, nourish a strong hope of immortality through Christ. The analogy between Eucharistic consecration and in the sacrament of marriage reveals the nature of the covenant. It also defines the communion (union) of persons, in which God is the guarantor of unity and duration. He is the Author of marital life and is present in it through a special sacramental grace. On this path, He develops the special vocation of spouses to holiness. This indicates the essential meaning of marital consent, defending it from trivialization or reduction to an external rite. This issue is important for the spouses themselves, the Catholic Church and the development of human civilization in the era of increasing secularism.
