Abstract

The inspiration for the creation of a magazine devoted to Polish preaching was the Kielce Homiletical Circle, which was one of the first in the country. From the moment it was founded, it began to actively engage in work on the revival of the Polish art of preaching. Homiletical Review was the only magazine in Polish in the interwar period devoted entirely to the theory and practice of preaching. The inspirer and main creator of Homiletical Review was Fr. Zygmunt Pilch (1888-1962). The first Editorial Committee included: Fr. Z. Pilch as chief editor and Fr. N. Cieszyński, Fr. W. Kosiński and Fr. S. Żukowski. It began to be published in 1923 and continued until 1939, and was resumed after the war. From the beginning of its existence, the magazine had clearly defined goals: training priests in the art of preaching, providing orientation in new homiletical issues, providing materials, information and tips on more difficult preaching topics.
