The Diocese of Wrocław in the mediaeval period had ten collegiate chapters, which, due to the extent of the bishopric, as well as the period of district fragmentation and a considerable number of duchies added splendour to the Church and to the princely courts. The invocations given to churches serving as seats of eccle-siastical corporations point to many circumstances of a religious, social, and political nature. The first part catalogues all collegiate churches in the Diocese of Wrocław, along with the most important information related to the particular religious building and foundation purposes. Further, on the basis of available sources primarily from the Middle Ages, an attempt was made to display all the patrocinia that were used in the collegiate church. The modern sources, primarily visitation reports, were aimed at demonstrating a phenomenon of the permanence of the invocation and possibly its disappearance.
