Itinerarium of the pilgrimage of the copy of the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa in the Archdiocese of Gniezno (1978-1979)

Abstract
The idea of organizing a pilgrimage of a copy of the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa to successive Polish dioceses and parishes came into being in 1956 and was the result of the Jasna Góra Vows of the Nation. After liberating Primate Stefan Wyszyński from internment, the implementation of the planned pastoral project began. In 1957, Pope Pius XII blessed two copies of the Miraculous Icon and one of them set out on the pilgrims' trail. In 1978, she reached Gniezno and for over a year she travelled 5,523 km, visiting all parishes, greeted with ovations and received by priests and the faithful. This pilgrimage overlapped with important events for the Church in Poland. In October 1978, Karol Wojtyła was elected pope, and in June of the following year, a pope from Poland came to his homeland for the first time. These facts, together with the permanent fruits of the pilgrimage, brought measurable spiritual effects that contributed to political and social changes. The prepared itinerary of the visitation in the Archdiocese of Gniezno becomes a key to understanding many issues from the contemporary history of the Church and the phenomenon of Polish Catholicism.
