The conception of hermeneutics as understood by Emilio Betti appears as a general theory of interpretation and as a methodology of the gnoseological process of interpretation. It ranks highly in the veritative hermeneutics of Gaspare Mura, and it is a conception that is complementary to transcendental, ontological-existential, and nihilistic hermeneutics. It enriches the objectivity of interpretation and lays foundations under the theoretical basis of hermeneutics that targets the recreation of authentic intentionality of objects of interpretation. Emilio Betti claims that one is able to distinguish an artistic object from a religious one, philosophical from literary, legal from historical. The object is interpreted here as a representation form, as historical reality and as a historical product of human genius.
