The office of the promoter of justice is one of the public offices in the Church and, at the same time, one of the officials of the ecclesiastical tribunal. The aim of this article is to present and analyze the competences of the promoter of justice in the matrimonial process revised by Pope Francis in 2015. These competences are: 1) to challenge the marriage, 2) to be present at hearings or to present questions to the tribunal, 3) to review judicial documents, 4) to bring an action for annulment of a judgment or an appeal, 5) to be informed about the judgment. The conclusion is that the reform of Pope Francis did not bring much change in the competences of the promoter of justice compared to the previous state of the law.
