Аннотация

This article analyses the functioning and conceptualisation of the term praworządność (the rule of law) within
Polish public, parliamentary, and legal discourse. Based on linguistic big data extracted from various Polish
corpora and processed using digital tools for frequency, sentiment, and text classification, the study explores
the terminological and contextual usage of this concept. The findings indicate that the frequency of the term
explicitly spikes during periods of socio-political transformation and institutional crisis, particularly in the 1990s
and between 2015 and 2024. Furthermore, research demonstrates that the rule of law lacks a distinct, strict
definition in Polish law, relying instead on its general lexical meaning. The term dominantly operates within
formalised communication channels—such as journalism and political debates—rather than in informal,
everyday speech. Ultimately, this interdisciplinary study examines the rule of law through the combined lenses
of linguistics, legal sciences, and socio-political dimensions.
