The aim of the article is to present the attitude of Rev. Hieronim Kajsiewicz and the Resurrectionists towards priests taking part in January Uprising. Firstly, the author explains the circumstances of publication and the contents of the famous open letter of Rev. Kajsiewicz. Secondly, he recalls the merits of Rev. Aleksander Jełowicki towards Polish emigrant priests in Paris. Thirdly, he presents two specific instances of relations between the Resurrectionists and priests participating in January Uprising (Rev. Wincenty Barzyński and Rev. Adolf Bakanowski). Last but not least, the author presents the notion of priestly service in the eyes of contemporary Resurrectionists and their efforts for the benefits of priestly formation (Polish College in Rome). The attitude of Rev. Kajsiewicz and the Resurrectionists towards priests participating in January Uprising can be defined as strictly Christian: they condemned the sin but accepted the sinner. They warned priests against choosing a wrong way but gave forced emigrants a helping hand. Unfortunately such attitude often met with negative reception. Rev. Kajsiewicz was pronounced a traitor and Rev. Jełowicki met with envy. Only some priests were able to understand the truth preached by the Resurrectionists: that the greatest patriot is a priest who leads a deep spiritual and intellectual life and that more can be done for the homeland by being first and foremost a priest.
