The Late Gothic Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Zwoleń owes its prestige to the literary family connected with Sycyna and Czarnolas. Two chapels built thanks to the foundation of the Kochanowski family (one founded by the poet’s nephew – Adam, the magistrate of the Lublin region, the other – by the granddaughter of the Bard of Czarnolas, Zuzanna Wołucka) and the fact that the chapel was made a family necropolis gave the church an important place on the Polish cultural map. The marble epitaph with the image of Jan Kochanowski, containing highly interesting symbolism, has for centuries attracted many poetry lovers, honoured guests (for example Stanisław August Poniatowski who visited the grave of the author of Epigrams in 1787) as well as young people who visit to this place on school trips.
