Fr. Bishop Michał Bartłomiej Tarło was a beautiful figure of the Catholic Church in Poland in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, first an inspector of Polish priests of the Congregation of the Mission and a parish priest of St. Krzyża in Warsaw, then bishop of Poznań. He developed various activities as an inspector. He made efforts related to the external and internal development of the Congregation. Tarło was also the actual builder of the monumental church of St. Cross in Warsaw. Tarło, as the first visitor of Polish missionaries, can rightly be called the father of the Polish Province. He tried to lay strong foundations for the construction of the Missionary Congregation in Poland. He made his efforts with great zeal. He enthusiastically preached to the faithful during missions and retreats. He began to serve as bishop in very difficult times.
