Prussian secularisation greatly impoverished the Church and undermined the material basis of various ecclesiastical institutions, including the chapters. For their continued existence it was necessary to adapt them organisationally to the new situation. This article discusses the necessity of reforming the Gniezno Chapter after secularisation. It also shows the need for Archbishop Ignacy Raczynski to issue a decree on the reform of the Metropolitan Chapter of Gniezno in 1810.
