Abstract

For all Catholic nations, Rome - as the center of Christianity - has always been the goal of lively aspirations, sometimes aimed at stabilized and institutionalized forms of presence on the Tiber. This concerned diplomatic contacts, references to papal offices and congregations, and the building of national houses for pilgrims. Possibilities of organizing study and education centers for clergy of various nationalities in Rome were also sought. In this trend, it is necessary to note the Polish initiative in the form of the Polish College, founded in 1866 and run by Resurrection priests until this institution was taken over by diocesan clergy in 1938.
