Abstract

The Brigittine convents in Lwów and Sambor have their place in the historiography of the Brigittine Order. But the paragraphs or chapters devoted to them lack a firm foundation in source material. The intention of this short study is to show that valuable new insights into everyday life of the Lwów convent in the middle of the 18th century can be gained from the ledgers kept in the PAN Library, while the history of the Sambor convent from its foundation in 1611 until at least 1758 can be reconstructed from a visitation document preserved at Przemyśl (a continuation of the history of the latter convent may be attempted on the basis of other documents in the same holding). In each case a monographic study could and should be written.
