Abstract

The author reflects on the terminology related to consecrated life, especially the concept of "nun". He seeks clarification as to whether St. Scholastica was indeed a nun, given the historical contexts and evolution of terminology. He notes that in the times of St. Scholasticism, the concept of "nun" did not exist in today's understanding, and nuns led a life dedicated to God, but were not always organized into monastic communities. The Encyclopedia of Consecrated Life by Father Mirosław Daniluk provides definitions and explanations on this topic, pointing out significant differences between historical and contemporary terminology. Although the author finds some inaccuracies in the Encyclopedia, she assesses it as a valuable source of information about consecrated life, which allows for a better understanding of its complexity.
