Education of experts in physicochemical analysis of microtraces

Abstract

Modern criminalistics is applying many specific and complex methods and techniques for examinations in criminal cases. Experts of microtraces identify different kinds of traces using physicochemical methods and provide significant evidence for forensic investigations. The knowledge concerning new achievements of chemistry and technology, the application of modern analytical equipment in trace examination as well as critical evaluation of the results obtained are very important since they may enlighten the criminal case. Since 20 years the specialization of ‘forensic chemistry’ at the Jagiellonian university prepares students of chemistry to work in forensic laboratories. The base of the next stage of education is direct cooperation with experts in a forensic laboratory as well as participation in forensic conferences as a forum of an exchange of experiences.
