In the presented study, the Author has undertaken a reflection on the issue of the status of priests of the guidelines of the Letter of the Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei” of 27 March 2017. The fundamental research objective of this study was reduced to the question: what is the value of the findings contained in the document of the organ of the Holy See? The research objective thus defined demanded that the question be examined both in the nearer context (the reasons for the issuance of the Letter) and in the further context (the actions of the Holy See aimed at achieving full unity of the Confraternity with the Catholic Church). The Author showed that at present the position of the Confraternity in the hierarchical structure of the Church remains unregulated, therefore the position of the priests of this community as regards assisting at marriage is not even equal to the position of a person al pastor, therefore they need a delegation for a valid assistance. As far as the value of the findings of the Letter of the Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei” is concerned, according to the Author, it cannot be concluded from its provisions that the position of the Holy See on the possibility to grant a delegation to assist at the celebration of marriage has changed, but, in his opinion, the document only defines the pastoral conditions in which it could be granted.
