
The article examines the degree of linguistic influence of the Poznań Bambers on the formation of the contemporary Poznań dialect. The origin and language of the emigrating settlers were analyzed, taking into account the then territorial and communication divisions. The factors influencing the extremely rapid polonization of Bambry were also presented, from religious reasons through education to the intensification of relations with the Polish population. The article deals with the issue of attempts at germanization of the Bamberians – in particular during the Prussian partition in Wielkopolska – in the context of the final crystallization of the national and regional identity of this ethnocultural group. The analysis closes with the current participation and contribution of the Bambers to the culture and linguistic heritage of Poznań.
